Aluminum Pergolas

An aluminum louvered roof pergola has a series of horizontal slats—called louvers—that can be tilted open or closed depending on your needs. When open, they let in sunlight and airflow. When closed, they form a solid, protective roof that sheds rain and provides shade. Motorized systems let you make these adjustments with a remote, wall switch, or smart control.

Yes. When the louvers are fully closed, they act like a solid roof and help keep your space dry during light to moderate rain. Many systems also include integrated drainage channels that funnel water away from beneath the pergola posts. While they are very effective in most weather, extremely heavy storms may still require extra planning or sheltering of outdoor furniture.

Permit requirements vary by city and homeowners’ association. In many areas, attached or large pergolas require permits that consider setbacks, height limits, and wind or snow loads. Some HOAs also ask for drawings, color samples, or product specs for architectural review before approval. It’s best to check local building codes early in the planning process.
